The Echizen Yasutsugu line can be traced back to Yasutsugu I  who was working in edo retaned by the Shoguns Tokugawa Ieyasu and Hidetada during the early part of the 17th century. This katana is believed to be the work of the 5th generation Yasutsugu. The sword is slightly suriage but still retains the full signature. The hamon is a splendid midare-ba with much hataraki to be seen, muneyaki is also found on this sword in places. The hada is a tight ko-itame on which much ji-nie appears. The boshi is chu-maru with sweeping nie. The nie activity on this blade is exceptional and a sight to see.
