This is a very  beautiful koto sword.  The hada is very good and well forged.  This nagamaki-naoshi dates back to Tenmon (1532).  Nagamaki-naoshi are rarely seen today.  This is a great example of a cut down Nagamaki.  The hamon is bright and in good shape.  The sword is sharp on both sides at the point, again another rare feature on a sword.  The shinogi has some wari from age but acceptable as the work on the blade and its unique quality and construction compensates for this.  This sword is attributed to a good school also, (bingo) Mihara.

This is a  Bingo Mihara blade made in the Koto period.

The Bingo Mihara School was said to have been founded by Masaiye from around the early 1300’s. Signed works are rare. Most signed works belong to Masahiro, a master of the Ko-mihara school.
