According to the Meikan there were 5 generations of nijimei Muneyoshi from Wakasa (Jakushu). They worked from 1460-1570). This sword is from mid 15th century and a fine example of a koto katana.
This sword is original and never cut down. It retains its original elegant shape and beauty. The curvatuer of this sword is koshisori and has that wonderful koto feel to the sword. Many Koto period swords have an abundance of flaws from over polishing but this sword is somewhat healthy. It has a few minor opening and some course hada. This course hada is found on many Jakushu blades. It is not easy to find good koto swords that have not been cut down and that still retain there original signatures. that makes this blade somewhat more interesting in that respect. The hada overall is very silky and has a whitish aperience and is very clear to the eye. The Suguha hamon is niedeki and shows hataraki in a very understated fashion as in many old koto swords. This is not a flashy blade but is more of a classical Japanese taste, quiet and elegant.
