The Shigekuni line started working in the 1600's. Many later generations followed up till the 1800's. This sword is from the kunbun to Enpo period (1661-1673). More than likely the 3rd or 4th generation Shigekuni. This sword is in a good polish and is very nicely made. There are no flaws on this sword. The itama hada is well forged and the shinogiji has long running masame hada. The hada in the shinogi has some coarseness in places appearing like strong O-hada. The hamon is very nicely done with many hataraki in it . Beautiful nie are very visible throughout the hamon and the boshi.
